World Cup 2010 Tickets on Sale Tomorrow Morning

By: Daryl | February 19th, 2009 | 7 Comments »

You read that right. Tickets for the big show officially go on sale at 11am GMT tomorrow morning (Friday, Feb 20th, 2009). So I guess that means the tickets I bought off that one-eyed-fella in the pub last week are no good. I should have known official FIFA tickets weren’t printed on beermats. Curses.

Reuters has all the facts, which we’ve used to answer a few questions:

How many WC2010 tickets are there altogether? Just over 3 million

How many will go to sponsorship/hospitality/tv rights holders: 996,000

So a third of WC 2010 tickets are corporate giveaways? Yes

Are you surprised? No

How many are actually available to the public then? About 1.5 million

So only about half? Yes

Damn. Exactly

How much do tickets cost? Anything from $20 to $900

Aren’t there some free tickets for South Africans? Yes. 120,000 free tickets for people from poor areas.

Isn’t that quite generous? Yes. But also no. It’s about 10% the amount of free tickets being given to sponsors.

Forget phase 1. Wait until the final phase and stay up 24/7 refreshing pages. That’s how I got my tix for 06, including my Argentina-Germany quarterfinal joints.

Put in my application nice and early, in the first 200 if the confirmation number is to be believed. I know it gets me nothing above or beyond what I would have gotten a day later, but still, it’s done and I can forget about it until I have them or don’t.

Now all the Scots have to do is match my effort and make the damned thing!

so you put in the application and then its random selection if you get tickets? or is it random selection if you get phase 1 tickets but you can still try again?

I think it is you put in your application for phase one, and then there is a random selection.

However, none of the teams and fixtures have been announced yet!! All you are bidding to buy is to watch a random match at a specific time&day and a specific stadium.

I believe in phase 2 there will be tickets allocated by country? Or something like that.
