Hug A Finn Today

By: chris | October 16th, 2008 | 4 Comments »

How often do you see a team subjected to two own goals? Not often. The football gods can be cruel, but typically not that cruel. Unfortunately for Finland, they woke up on the wrong side of the bed today, forcing Petri Pasanen and Veli Lampi into own goals, effectively putting the Finns out of the game in Moscow by the 65th minute with little help from the Russians.

The cherry on top? They had to watch Andrei Arshavin dance through the defense and around the keeper to score a magnificent goal just two minutes before the agony was to be over. So if you see a Finn today, give ‘em a hug. They’ll need it.

Felt really bad for them. Finnish football is on the rise (see under-21 team) but they have a really tough group. My Finnish friend says they have no chances to make it.

Sure, someone hug me now. But that was terrible most of all because our NT CAN do so much better, they were better against Germany… well, we’ll stay behind the team but chances of being anything but the third in the group are very slim -.-

Suck me. Finns were LUCKY to score two their own goals, becasue other way around would have been 10:0.
I don’t quite understand coaches who think they can outplay better tems while exposing their defense… (Fucking Sporting Gijon tried, two times in a row). I thought it was enough for any self respecting coach, but noooo, Finns tried to equalize, while leaving Zhirkov, Arshavin and Pogrebnyak against 2 defenders and Jask* (fill it for me), who was unbeFKNGlievable this day. By sheer luck (or 1- luck) they weren’t able to score themselves, otherwise Finland NT would need a stop at Leningrad for some fuel (if you know what I mean).
