The “Most Beautiful” Goal of Euro 2008 (Watch Fast)

The voters have spoken. According to people who voted on the UEFA site, Wesley Sneijder’s goal against France was unquestionably the most beautiful goal of the Euros. It took 40% of the vote. (Nihat Kahveci’s game-winning goal against the Czech Republic took 14%, and Andrei Arshavin’s goal against Sweden took12%. )

And France fan says…Um, yeah. Glad we could help you out, Wesley.

(Watch fast. It’s somehow up on YouTube. Not sure how they’ve allowed that to happen, but my guess is it won’t last 24 hours.)

It’s still shocking to think back how inevitable a Netherlands final looked after the group stage… and how wrong we were about Russia.

A beautiful goal, but to my mind it wasn’t even the best goal the Netherlands scored in that game. I liked Robben’s super-tight angle shot straight over the goalkeeper after two devastating through balls.

Not to rub salt in the wound or anything, Laurie.

Brian, I thought the Robben goal was spectacular as well. (And keep in mind that this is coming from a France fan.) After that one, the part of me that wasn’t thinking, “Oh, holy bloody hell” was thinking, “Ooh, pretty!”

HOLLAND ———— = ———-All that Glitters is not Gold.

Honestly, I think Holland were satisfied after their ‘Group of Death’ dismantling. You see how they reacted and responded after the French tilt? I dont blame them. Besides Spain and maybe Russia, they accomplished plenty.

maybe this summer’s dutch display was a taste of what’s to come, but a great run in the group stages and a loss in the quarters isn’t a piece of silverware.
