Preparations are underway in Marseille, France, for the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup, which starts Thursday.

The 16 teams that qualified for Marseille are Cameroon and Senegal (Africa), Iran, Japan and United Arab Emirates (Asia), El Salvador and Mexico (North and Central America and the Caribbean), the Solomon Islands (Oceania), Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay (South America), and Italy, Portugal, Russia, Spain and hosts France (Europe).

The photo is part of an interesting slideshow on the French Football Federation website that shows the stadium under construction. A couple more photos after the jump.

Cool construction. Very fitting that the tournament is in such a beautiful coastal place, Marseille.
