Photo: Mexico’s US Voodoo Doll

Remember last week when I was talking about the voodoo doll for Mexican fans to use on the US? I now have a photo.

Not precisely sure this is the same one. That one was a Radio Shack promo, this comes from the Mexican sport magazine Record.

I’m guessing it’s the same one, though. I’m also guessing that if you checked their shipping invoices, you might find that they came from Radio Shack headquarters. And that Radio Shack made them a really good deal.

UPDATE: USA World Cup blog has the latest and greatest on this story. Apparently Blockbuster are now the newest sponsors of this promo. Because that whole “no late fees” scam didn’t offend nearly enough people.

Yeah, it actually is the same one, Laurie. The Record was doing the promotion in conjunction with Radio Shack, so I guess they just went ahead and did it by themselves.

Here’s the WCB post we did on it, with a comment from the Record:

Thanks, Brook. I read that last week but didn’t catch that it was in conjunction with Record.

No-one told The Record and/or Radio Shack that John O’Brien hasn’t been called-up to the USMNT since the last World Cup.

New development in this story:

Apparently Blockbuster was the one who picked up the distribution of these things.

If that thing says Donovan on the back I want to beat on.

With the one broken eye it is more remininscent of McBride or Twellman though.

Blockbuster is now the corporate sponsor of these things. USMNT fans, feel free to boycott said store…I hear netflix is nice this time of year.

If you put one of these in the hands of someone, say Messi, could it actually improve the USA’s play?

This is very similar to Otto, a vuoodoo doll released by a Spanish TV channel during the past Euro Championship.

It seemed to work.

LOL this is hilarious. No offense, but do Mexico even need this sh** to beat the US? ;P

Marco, in a word: yes. They haven’t beaten the US on US soil in ten years. It’s gotten to the point where they’ve called in sports psychologists. (I wrote a post on that last year.) Voodoo was the obvious next step. ;-)

Laurie: Yet the US hasn’t beaten them in Mexico City either, I think the desperation is because Mexico hasn’t been doing good lately and because the US is a long time rival.

Man it’s just a sport chill, I’m a Mexican-American (born in Tijuana and naturalized in the US) and I’ve been living in the US for quite awhile that I feel I am part of here, still I have a small favoritism for the Mexican team but whoever wins it’s cool by me.
