Myanmar Goalkeeper Over-Reacts to Conceding

By: Daryl | December 8th, 2008 | 6 Comments »

The 2008 ASEAN Football Championship (formerly the Tiger Cup, now the Suzuki Cup) is happening right now, with eight teams from South-East Asia competing for the silverware.

One man whose tournament is very much over is Myanmar keeper Aung Aung Oo, who reacted very badly when Singapore took a quick free kick to score and make it 3-1.

Don’t make Aung Aung Oo angry. You wouldn’t like him when he’s angry.

You can see in the video above that Aung’s reaction was to sprint half the length of the field and knock referee Phung Dinh Dung to the ground. Apparently referees will overturn opposition goals if shoved hard enough. But in this instance Aung received a red card instead.

Even better, the Myanmar players staged a walkout in protest only to return a few minutes later and finish the game meekly with ten men.

Daryl, I see you got the link from our national newspaper here. That news share a front-page headline with other news yesterday (it’s already Tuesday here). I did not really watched the entire match given when it was going on, I was out with my family for dinner and at where we were having dinner, there was a TV set nearby and the match was shown. By the time I got home with my family, the match was almost over.

But based on what I was watching on the evening news yesterday in regards to the highlights (or the lowlights) of the match, the reaction from the opposing goalkeeper made me shook my head. This is not the first the Myanmar national team had threatened to walk out of a match. Four years ago when we met them in the same tournament in the semi-final, a similar thing also happened. There is a mention of what happened back then, through briefly here – http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sportsnews/view/394769/1/.html

To be honest, I do not understand why my country’s national team always have to bear the brunt of a national team threatening to walk out a match. Just in the previous edition which happened last year in the first-leg of the final against Thailand, the walkout from the Thai national team took place for like 10 to 15 minutes. I had kind of forgotten what triggered it. But I know it was big news in our papers then.

Oh well, my country’s national team has already advanced to the semi-finals of the current tournament with a match to spare. The defending champion is marching on. And Daryl, maybe you have seen the Wikipedia page of the tournament, but ever since the tournament was first implemented, only Thailand and Singapore had won that. I was not aware of it, until recently. Bad me, consider me coming from Singapore.

When I check the whole football, I found singapore football player looks like a ball thieves. They never wait instruction and they made quick free kid. Because they dont have good pritices about mind. They want to win till they used wrongly method. I convinced singapore team did not based on their foot and they want to win only understand. They dont have team work and did not write their history. They should shame theirself even they win. I believed that if they have good pritices in football and mind, they will not happened this action again.

I watched that match as a human being not a football player. When a player was lying on the ground with injury, should the rest of the players take opportunity from other side.I would not complaint of anything if there was no lying player with injury on the ground.I thought which one is more important between humanity and success at a game .
