Montenegro Scalp Norway

Recent international newcomers Montenegro claimed their biggest scalp yet last night with a 3-1 win over Norway. Igor Burzanovic, Branko Boskovic and Radomir Djalovic got the goals in Podgorica, with Norwegian media describing the loss as “humiliating.”

When the Serbia & Montenegro teams split after World Cup 2006, most assumed that Montenegro would struggle. But so far the little nation is holding up pretty well. The team has now played seven internationals and – after last night’s result – has three wins, three defeats, one draw.

They weren’t ready for Euro 2008 qualification, but will be taking a shot at making World Cup 2010 later this year. They’ve been drawn in European Group 8 alongside Bulgaria, Cyprus, Georgia, Italy and Ireland. And if all Montenegro’s highlights are accompanied by a stirring soundtrack like the one above, then they might cause a few more upsets.
