“La Vida Tombola” by Manu Chao, featuring Diego Maradona

By: Daryl | December 18th, 2008 | 8 Comments »

The music/video above is a tribute to the man that is Diego Maradona, by Manu Chao who – according to his Wikipedia page – is one of the best selling artists in the world (because not all music is in English). More from Chao on his Nacional Records page here.

Lots of footage of the current Argentina boss with the Chao in “La Vida Tombola” above, as well as some early footage of a young El Diego, back when he was just Diego.

And if you’re an English defender who played international football in 1986, then you might want to look away around the 1:40 mark. And the 1:59 mark too. You can also see Maradona go supersized, get hospitalized and then return to normal size. Nice to see a celebratory video that doesn’t ignore the not so glorious periods of Maradona’s life.

The song also “La Vida Tombola” features in the film “El Pibe de Oro” by Serbian filmmaker Emir Kusturica (trailer after the jump). Whatever you think of him, 2008 has been quite a year for El Diego, eh?

Manu sings in Portuguese, English, Spanish, French and some African languages – he is the most amazing artist in the world! His new album, La Radiolina is incredible!
