Honduras Win CONCACAF U-23 Tournament

By: Daryl | March 24th, 2008 | No Comments »

Hard to know what to make of the CONCACAF U-23 Olympic Qualifying Final. The two finalists - USA and Honduras - had both qualified for the 2008 Olympics by virtue of winning their respective semi-finals, and the US had already put European based players like Freddy Adu and Jonathon Spector on a plane back across the Atlantic. But it was still a final, with a trophy that both teams still wanted to lift.

And it was Honduras that did the lifting, thanks to a superb strike in extra time from the excellently named Georgie Wilson Welcome. Straight in the top corner from 20 yards out for a 1-0 win.

Apparently Georgie Wilson Welcome is without a contract right now, but with that goal on YouTube there’s a good chance his phone will ring this week.
