FIFA comes gunning for World Cup Blog. Again.

FIFA arouses from it’s slumberIn a move that’s sooooo 2006, FIFA has come out of its cave to threaten the villagers who contribute to it being the well-fed monster that it is. Two years ago almost to the day, World Cup Blog received a cease & desist notice regarding its use in its site logo of the part of copyrighted WM 2006 logo for the World Cup in Germany.

Today, WCB received a very similar letter, though worded in a much friendlier way. You can read it in all it’s glory right here. For those that don’t have the patience to wade through the long-winded version, here’s the summary (emphasis is mine):

You may not be aware that only people who have paid us extremely large amounts of money are allowed to use the dodgy logo we have created for the world’s greatest tournament (you know, the one that looks like it was drawn by a 5 year old), and if you steal said logo you jeopardize our ability to fund children’s soccer programs in poor parts of the world (so they can grow up to be French internationals – did you know that FIFA was founded by a Frenchman?). So you see, it’s for the kids that we must send a team of lawyers after your sorry arse.

So, as you can see we’ve changed our logo from this to what you see above.

You know? I love this response to you. It shows some contracted lawyer in some back office being made to do this had a sense of humour, and I can always appreciate that.

As for you for changing it – I actually like yours much better. Win-Win!

I’ll bet I brought this on by publicly publishing Sepp’s phone number.

You know. The one right here. That anyone can call.

Yeah, I’m with Sharon. The fact that our backup logo is nicer than their original one pleases me greatly. When we’re all wondering where the second half of the stadium is for one of the group matches, I’m sure we’ll all be glad that this is what FIFA spent its time on in 2008.

Who cares about a stupid logo?
And who wants to associate himself with FIFA after all
Tell ‘em to shove it…

Hey FIFA I put that logo on my boxers. If you want to get rid of it, you can kiss my ass.
