China’s Zong Lei Replicates Schumacher’s 1982 Horror Tackle

By: Daryl | February 20th, 2008 | No Comments »

It’s all happening at the East Asian Cup, and not all of it nice.

During China’s 1-0 defeat at the hands of Japan, Chinese goalkeeper Zong Lei came rushing out of his box, ignored the ball and delivered a nasty looking kick to the Japanese attacker. It’s a mirror image of Harald Schumacher’s (in)famous World Cup 1982 semifinal moment where the German keeper damn near broke French defender Patrick Battiston in half. See below:

Zong Lei doesn’t make quite as much contact as Schumacher, but this is still like the evil twin equivalent of Leo Messi recreating Diego Maradona’s wondergoal last year.
