Beckham Will Definitely Play Tomorrow, But is 100 Caps Really That Important?
Just in case there was any doubt, Fabio Capello has made it clear that David Beckham will play against France tomorrow and get his long-awaited 100th cap.
“He will play,” Capello told the press today. “I could not possibly make him come from the USA and not play him.” Which is the exact opposite of how Bayer Leverkusen felt about Beckham’s Galaxy teammate Landon Donovan
The England boss didn’t say Beckham would start, only that he would make an appearance and get his 100th cap. Not to rain on Beckham’s parade, but I’m still not convinced 100 caps is all that important. It’s really just a number, and 99 caps would still be a lot of appearances for England.
You could also argue that if Beckham gets a 100th cap just to get a 100th cap… is it really legitimate? It always looks suspicious to me when a player has exactly 100 caps, because you just know that last one was a gift. So the real test will be whether Beckham gets to 101 and beyond.

If the game was a Euro 2008 tune up and not a completely meaningless friendly, would he be playing?

Brand Beckham is an absolute discrace that makes me feel sick. Beckham the player however has been fantastic, and a player who carried England for a long time.
I’m happy for him that he has won his 100th cap although i agree with the above poster that he wouldn’t (and shouldn’t) be playing in a competitive match.
Beckham the player has as good as retired from domestic football let alone international football, and i would mucg rather see the youngsters being brought through in future games.
