World Cup Round Up: Trezeguet left out, Ireland and Brazil, Japan 2018

By: WC Bob | November 8th, 2007 | 4 Comments »

trezeguet.jpgWhat does a man need to do to earn a spot on his national team? In the case of French striker David Trezeguet, it appears that he needs to kiss manager Raymond Domenech’s arse a little more often. Trezeguet has scored 10 goals in 11 matches this season at Juventus, but that impressive scoring output isn’t enough to earn a spot on France’s 24-man roster against Ukraine. Apparently Nicolas Anelka is more deserving. I can’t figure that one out.

What would be the greatest accomplishment in the history of football in Scotland? The country’s manager Alex McLeish thinks it would be knocking off Italy in Glasgow. Man, I am already excited to see how this all turns out.

If there is one thing that is sure to be a hit in just about any country in the world, it is a friendly involving Brazil. Ireland are the latest to schedule the South American giants. They’ll meet up in Dublin on February 6.

Add Japan to the ever growing list of countries that would like to host the 2018 World Cup. They are apparently looking into the matter. Japan did a nice job back in 2002, but in my opinion it would be better to award it to a country that has never hosted the event or hasn’t done so in decades.

England’s players continue to pester their Israeli club teammates to win one for the adopted motherland. Liverpool’s players have been urging Yossi Benyaoun to get the job done when Israel face Russia in Euro 2008 qualifying.

As for England, Arsene Wenger has no interest in becoming the country’s manager. Can’t say that I can blame him.

He has coached Nigeria, Burkina Faso, South Africa, Morocco, and Japan. Now it is likely that the Frenchman Philippe Troussier is set to guide the Squirrels of Benin. Is it me or are most African nations coached by the same five or six recycled Europeans?

Enough with the foreign coaches already. At least that is what they are saying in South Korea.

Here’s the squad for Bolivia for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Argentina and Venezuela and the squad for Portugal and the squad for the Czech Republic.

Trez-e-gol has been unlucky - especialy when you consider that Anelka is currently injured for his club! Domenech was at the Arsenal Man Utd game wasn’t he, so he would have loved the Evra-Saha link up for the 2-1 goal - and then Gallas’ finish! Clichy had a decent game too - yet he still gets overlooked - surely for the Morocco game he’s worth a try - as it’s only a friendly….

Domenech is a f***tard, like honeslty. what does a guy have to go to get a spot on the national team! as most of you can judge im pro-azzurri and very anti french (surpirse surprise) but even i can see what Trez is doing and that not putting him on the team is friggn ludacris! i mean even though trez destroyed our hopes in euro 2000 i actually feel for the guy.
pure and simple domenech needs to be fired b4 donandoni…so like FAST

Domenech is a big looser, despite he has on his hands one of the best team over the world (maybe the best one) he did not win nothing important (same story when he was coach of France U21).
GO TREZEGOL GO!!! Do not worry about France we (Juventus) have to catch Inter
