World Cup Rotation System Up in the Air

By: WC Bob | March 23rd, 2007 | 28 Comments »

On a day when FIFA czar-for-life Sepp Blatter blasted money as being the cause of football’s ills and paradoxically FIFA announced that it made a bundle of loot last year, we learn that current system of rotating World Cups through the various football regions may be changed or disappear.

Blatter told reporters Friday that the FIFA executive committee will convene in December to decide the host country for the 2014 World Cup and to re-examine the current system of rotating the event between continents.

I personally like the idea of rotating the World Cup. I think it is great that the world’s biggest sporting event is staged all over the world and that it isn’t limited to just a few countries with the money and power to buy FIFA’s votes. The system isn’t perfect, but it is fairer than having it in one region host it over and over and over again.

I didn’t mention anything about Europe getting the World Cup every 8 years. What I suggested was every 12 years. If you don’t think that’s fair then let’s have Europe pay as much to televise the world cup as your country or Zimbabwe. Let’s also have European countries get as much of the world cup proceeds from FIFA as the third world countries get. Europe doesn’t need FIFA but FIFA needs Europe.

You really are not making any sense at all man except being blinded by your biasness; why should Europe be the only continent whose needs have to be protected? What about the rest of the world? And if Europe does NOT need FIFA then why the hell don’t they sucede then since you clearly don’t need to be a part of the world? Don’t worry that’s a rhetorical question because I know excatly what you are going to say. What’s laughable is that you seem to think that only a world cup in Europe generates the most profit, is the most watched etc…etc.. FYI look at US ‘94, the most attended and most profitable (for lack of a better word as FIFA is supposed to be a non profit making entity) tournament to date. Let Europe wait like everyone else and let’s see if that will be the end of mankind as we know it. By the way, remember SA 2010? The tournament you were on record as clearly against? Well the bad news is that preparations are in full swing, running smooth as a well oiled machine – that I am certain has left egg on a lot of people’s faces – just thought I would bring you and a lot of the other naysayers up to speed, and kinda rub it in a little :)

Thing is you hoped that SA 2010 was going to fail and that Germany was going to host it by default; ha, not even in your wildest wet dream sucker! In the process shying away from the real discussion that it is NOT Europe’s God given right, as you so naively think, to host every world cup.

“Which one of your pagan gods are talking about?”

What are you trying to say? Or are you having one of your dilusions? You’ve been beat and are thus becoming personal and senile in your old age – silly ass!!!

Kahuru if you think you won the arguement then fine. I have no interest in having a sensible discussion with a bigot like you. You have a real chip on your shoulder against Europeans. If you want to angry at the whites in South Africa because of apartheid I can understand that. Just don’t drop all Europeans into the same barrell.

You can’t think logically and follow an arguement. You read into things that your petit mind makes up. Not once did I ever say that Europe deserves every World Cup. My arguement has always been for every third one. You naturally hold for continental rotation so that South Africa can host every 20 years or perhaps 40 years because currently there aren’t more than 1 or 2 countries on you continent capable of perhaps holding a World Cup. Time will tell if South Africa can do it successfully or if they are as inept as they shown themselves to be in the past. I gather you don’t like Cape Town because it is the only part of South Africa not under the thumb of the ANC.

Don’t expect a reply to any of your permutated ramblings. It is just a waste of my time to respond to you. Ciao!!

Hi everyone, I am new to this website. I hope I will have a good reception.
Claude, even though I am new here. I don’t like the looks of you – you seem to be anti-South Africa and anti-African. I suggest you not libel us in your postings my man. Germany was far behind schedule at this point when the World Cup was going to be held there. Please stop your racism boet. Because you sound like a kraut during the Second World War.

An additional 21 cases can be added to a report of a deliberate campaign within the South African Police Service to get rid of non-black members.

This is according to a statement released at the weekend by the Civil Rights Union, AfriForum, established by the trade union Solidarity.

“Various new sources from all over the country have come forward after the publication last week of AfriForum’s comprehensive report, in which the conclusion was reached that members of the
police trade union, Popcru, are heading this strategy against non-black police service members.”

Oh, and by the way, didn’t you see the irony and racism in your “soldiers” action of painting their faces black, using boot polish when you were “protesting”? Or maybe, just miskien, you thought that was a joke? But our police, the majority of whom belong to Popcru, just left you alone to “protest” nevertheless. I am sure you won’t put up pictures of that here now, will you?

world cup 2010 should be held in the US not South Africa. From what I hear their are serious security problems because of the violent crime rate in the countries cities. In addition the US already has tons of NFL stadiums that are perfect for soccer. I agree the world cup should be held in europe every 3 world cups tho. Europe always has the most teams in the cups, and the most competitive (other than Brazil and argentina).

I have read some of your comments about 2010 in south africa. I am a citizen of this country, where i am writing from. I love SA and always will. We will host a good world cup and if we fail, so be it. We have never hosted a tournament of this magnitude before, except the rugby and cricket world cups in 1995 and 2003. They were, however, not as big as what the soccer world cup will be. But my point is, did Europe always host a perfect world cup, olympic games, rugby world cup etc. I don’t think so. As for serious crime, remember 1976 Munich Games where 11 Israeli’s were held hostage and killed. Remember 1996 Atlanta when there was a bombing in the Olympic park, killing 1 person. Don’t judge us before looking at your own records. Just because this is Africa does not mean people are going to be mugged left, right and centre. We all know this is an imperfect world and shit happens anywhere, whether it be in the most powerful country in the world or the poorest of them all. We will do our best to host a great soccer world cup, and I want them to, so that the rest of the world and those in our country who criticise us unfairly to eat their words.(For those who are racists, I am white).

Howzit Marco, my friend? Tell them. You know, when I was Stateside in 2000-2001, I found out that a lot of citizens there can’t tell Joburg from Lagos. And some of them thought I mingled around with animals. Be that as it may, look at Kevin parading his ignorance for all and sundry to see. It is just too late to re-award the 2010 World Cup. It is coming down here to this great South African nation. And it will probably rate among the most successful ever. I am saying this because at the end of 2001, I witnessed how South Africa hosted the UN’s biggest event – the anti-racism conference in Durban. Man, everything was so slick, so secure that Israelis and Palestinians and Americans were able to protests side by side. I think a lot of folks – particularly the racists among us – are going to be pleasantly surprised. It is no joke what happened to Americans on 911, but it just shows that you can’t say you are safe anywhere. I am sure we are going to teach folks a thing or two about running a slick, well-polished, very successful World Cup event. Mark ye my words – and watch this space!

Bravo Marco!!! The sad part of this whole scenario is that there are those, actually one Claude in particular who thinks that only his views count when it comes to South Africa 2010, and when one dissagrees with him like, yours truly, he is a racist and a bigot this just makes you laugh at such people’s ignorance, and how they try to hide behind a match stick when they are cornered. Bottom line is that the fact that the world cup is coming to Africa, and that Africa is making strides does not sit well with some of these people, and thus these nonsensical ideologies brought forth. It is Africa’s turn people DEAL WITH IT or jump off the nearest 20 story building; either way your existence or lack of it will not stop the 2010 world cup from being succesfully held in South Africa.

Oh yeah, and Bravo to you too Makaveli … you wonder if some people live in some four walled matchbox and think that is the whole world, and are thus ignorant of the fact that there is a greater world out there.

I think the world cup should be contested in countries that could offer the best facilities, transportation system, etc for football fans. Most European countries, Mexico and USA did offer that, but South Africa 2010? I don’t think the South Africans (or any African country for that matter) could host a world cup. Africa is the economic black hole in the world.
