One thing stands out after reading the list: Certain companies are coming to dominate the market. ESPN has rights in several countries, especially in Asia, Al Jazeera rules the market in the Middle East, Supersport is all over Africa and Sky seems to have some form of rights in most European countries (though not the UK) while DirecTV pops up a lot too.

If you have any corrections or additions for this list of World Cup 2010 broadcasters, please share in the comments.

Someone else could help me out but I'm in the Toronto area and I believe TLN also will be showing World Cup matches. I'm not sure how many and I think some of them are available in Spanish and/or Italian.

  • WorldCupBlog

That's right – we've just checked and TLN is in fact showing some matches. Not sure which ones, though, so stay tuned for more on that.

Haha, North Korea are getting SBS. For Aussie games they will have David Basheer & Kevin Muscat – the worst commentating duo since Andy Gray and his identical twin Randy took to the air for an English Conference South match.

    TSN also showing for Canada.

Daryl, good to see my country Singapore on the list. Up till earlier this month when the deal was announced, we have no idea will we be able to watch it here or not. There has been plenty of haggling with FIFA over how much should fans in my country pay to watch the tournament. There was even fears at one time the TV coverage may not happen here after all, or just the opening match, the two semi-final matches and the final on one of our free-to-air channels here (MediaCorp Channel 5, that is). In the end the subscription fees is steep for some to the extent there are those who chose to forgo it when the tournament rolls around next month. Major tournaments like the World Cup (the European Championship is another) are not included if you want to subscribe to pay-TV here, it is a one-off. But the two pay-TV networks which are responsible for bringing it here (StarHub TV and SingTel mio TV) have said that the price is justified given of the number of matches being shown (i.e. the opening match right up till the final).

Regarding ESPN having rights in many countries in Asia…traditionally they have a presence at this side of the world. So much so to the extent that we have our own version of ESPN Sportscenter.

For Taiwan (where I live) you say “let us know”
well I can't find any listings on ESPN Star for the FIFA world cup here and as I can't read chinese am unable to research if the local stations will show these games. This is really frustrating especially as it seems the games will be broadcast elsewhere in asia on the ESPN STAR network….guess it will be a repeat of the much awaited Vancouver winter olympics..ie. nothing!! You know there is more to life than baseball and basketball which is all we ever get here!!

Hey Clive, MUCH TV, ERA, or ELTA all will have the World Cup in Taiwan. If you use MOD TV, then you'll get ELTA, which broadcasts in both English and Chinese. If you're a regular cable person like me, you'll just get the Chinese on MUCH TV. On my system, it's 38, but look around. If you don't have cable, a few bars are playing all of the games. Brass Monkey and the Tavern are two.

  • HaroldIII

should of just put it here, check out my post for info

Cheers Haroldlll thanks for the info.

  • HaroldIII

No problem, I was just as upset at no Winter Olympics, so I've been checking for channels constantly

  • HaroldIII

Sorry, it's channel 45 on my cable. 38 is the same company, this is just a different channel. Looks like they'll have all 64 live!

CVM TV will be showing for Jamaica.
