Stadium Controversy Brewing in Cape Town
The 2010 World Cup in South Africa might be more than four years away, but already the tournament organizers and FIFA are engaged in a match of might. FIFA wants Cape Town to build a new stadium so that it can host more games during the tournament. Cape Town’s new mayor isn’t so sure that spending the city’s capital expenditure budget on a flashy football stadium is the best course of action for a city where indoor plumbing is the exception instead of the norm. Our man in South Africa Ben is doing a great job sorting this all out. By the time 2010 rolls around he will be fluent in FIFAspeak.

money is not the problem, we can easily afford to pay for these stadiums(we are not that poor, our GDP is 700 billion dollars) but it is the situation of the stadium. they want to build it in greenpoint where we can have spectaculatr views of table mountain, but the people in that area are not big on soccer, and it would be expensive for the people who are big on soccer to travel the on a weekly basis, so the stadiun will not be used frequentluy after the world cup.
