South America World Cup Qualifying Tournament to Start in September 2007
Proving that there is little rest for the World Cup weary, the South American Football Confederation announced today that FIFA has agreed to let it go forward with a 10-team qualifying tournament for the 2010 World Cup. The tournament, which will commence in September 2007, will see each country playing each other twice. It is the same system that has been used in the region during qualifying for the past three World Cup competitions and it is one that inevitably pisses off European club teams because of the number of times they have to release their South American players for international duties.
The top four teams from South America will automatically qualify. The fifth place finisher will play the fourth place team from CONCACAF in a two-game playoff for the right to play in South Africa.
Kids, September 2007 is right around the corner. Are we all ready for the fun to start up again?

I like the system, is as regular as it gets for a South American competition.
I guess they will repeat the fixture again, so all the games will be played in the exact same order as the 2 previous qualifying (in the 1998 Brazil was exempted).
