Preview: Uruguay vs. South Korea, Round of 16

THE BIG PICTURE
The first game in the World Cup Round of 16. Excitement. Group A winners Uruguay vs Group B runners-up South Korea.
In three group games, Uruguay conceded precisely zero goals, while forwards Diego Forlan and Luis Suarez did damage to the South African and Mexican defences. South Korea were impressive in their first game, beating Greece 2-0, but looked defensively suspect against Argentina (conceding four) and Nigeria (conceding two). Two big upside are the from of Man Utd midfielder Park Ji-Sung and the fact that Park Chu-Young is one of the few players to figure out how to a Jabulani past a goalkeeper from a direct free-kick.
WHAT’S AT STAKE
As with all Round of 16 games, there’s a place in the quarter-final at stake, where the winner of this game will play either Ghana or the USA. Which brings up the point: One team out of Uruguay, South Korea, USA and Ghana will be a World Cup 2010 semi-finalist.
Bet on Uruguay vs. South Korea
OUR PREDICTION
Tough to call, but I think Uruguay’s defensive superiority (have you seen Jorge Fucile’s perfect slide tackles?) will be enough to see them through 1-0 after extra time.
