Preview: Germany vs. Serbia

THE BIG PICTURE
Germany now find themselves in somewhat of a strange position, having heaped pressure on themselves to perform following a pulsating opener against Australia. If they win, they’ll continue to be labelled with a ‘favourites’ tag, if they lose, everyone will be screaming that they peaked too early. That may bother a lesser side, but the Germans are not ones to get carried away by the hype and publicity surrounding them. Aleksandar Lukovic’s red card for the Serbians against Ghana means he’ll be replaced by Neven Subotic whilst Germany are unlikely to change a formula which worked so successfully against the Aussies. Serbia have never beaten Germany, even when they had the help of Montenegro so will be looking to make history in South Africa and make no mistake, they’ll be much stronger as a squad than Australia, and certainly won’t be making things easy for the German front line.

OUR PREDICTION
This has the potential to be a real World cup treat, despite Serbia’s willingness to keep it tight at the back. They have no option but to press and that’ll suit the Germans right down to the ground. That said, I think it could well finish up a draw, possibly 2-2, with Serbia clinging on to give themselves some hope come the last day.
