Podcast: World Cup 2010 Group A (Highly Scientific) Preview

salma hayekAh, World Cup previews. They can be a bit dull and not particularly helfpul when it comes to predicting who will qualify from each group. One reason for this is that they focus too much on things like players and not enough on the really good things. Like quality of national anthem, team nickname and potential celebrity spokesperson. Until now.

Allow me to introduce the first of the Total Football Soccer Show’s World Cup 2010 previews, broadcast yesterday on Richmond Independent Radio and now available as a podcast. For our preview of Group A (South Africa, France, Mexico, Uruguay) we came up with a highly scientific system for predicting which teams would advance, awarding points based on best team nickname and so on.

To listen to the show and find out which two teams make it simply click here to open the mp3 file. If you like what you hear, you can also subscribe to the show via iTunes for the very reasonable cost of free.

    Such a good listen.

Wish i could see Alex describe Selma Hayek though.

Imagine a man trying to weigh two basketballs at once. That more or less captures the moment.

Classy. Great show, guys. Nerdily, I think my favorite segment on these group roundups will be the national anthem comparison. It’s true that France’s is iconic, but I like Uruguay’s, even if it does sound a little cartoony.

Very good job with the podcast guys. By the way, if you don’t know the lyrics to the French national anthem, the main phrase literally translates too “to arms citizens, for your battalions, let’s march, let’s march, so impure blood waters the furrows of our fields”. Maybe that would explain why its so intense and why the FNT is so violent.

  • Jimmy

I hope this wasn’t serious at all.
Sounds like someone is reading each teams wiki page to me. This was horrid, that’s really my honest opinion.

Shh Jimmy. Please don’t reveal our top secret research methodology.

“Sounds like someone is reading each teams wiki page to me. This was horrid, that’s really my honest opinion.”

Yes, some of it sounded extremely familiar, I think it was from the FIFA site. But that doesn’t mean they can’t give their own opinion on it of course (and lookup a couple of youtube videos, lol).

I like the podcasts, keep ‘m coming.
