List of World Cup 2010 Teams in International Friendly Action Today

soccer-world (1)Lots of friendly international football action today. For most (maybe all) World Cup 2010 teams, this isn’t just a chance to show off the new jerseys they’ll be wearing in South Africa, it’s also the last game of football before the provisional World Cup squads are named in May, followed by the final World Cup squad/roster deadline on June 10th. So there’s plenty to play for, especially for individual players.

Some big games too, featuring plenty of World Cup 2010 teams going head to head: Germany vs Argentina anyone? France vs Spain? Bring it on.

England vs Egypt should be interesting too, just to see what sort of reaction John Terry gets.

Here is a list of all international fixtures involving World Cup qualified teams:

World Cup 2010 teams are in bold.

Happened yesterday:
Ireland vs BrazilMatch report on Brazil WCB.

Already kicked off/finished at time of typing:

Chile had been scheduled to play both North Korea and Costa Rica, but those games have been cancelled due to the earthquake.

A little more information about those LiveBlogs. I’m reliably informed that:
Sarah will be covering France vs Spain on France WCB.
Jen will be typing away during Netherlands vs USA on USA WCB.
Luis will be keeping track of Portugal vs China on Portugal WCB.
Andrea and Al will be LiveBlogging Mexico vs New Zealand on Mexico WCB.

Please feel free to leave any prediction for and reactions to today’s games in the comments.

Sweet, thanks very much for the list.

No problem. I see one interesting result already: Managerless Ivory Coast lost 2-0 at home to South Korea. Any volunteers to take The Elephants job?

Very exciting day/night right about now. It’s a shame that Chile did NOT get to play on this glorious day because of the Earthquake. All teams in the WC 2010 are getting play run today. Brasil got their run and victory against Ireland yesterday.

The Chile games would have been really interesting. Seems they basically had a massive squad and were going to field two different Chile teams in back to back games vs North Korea and Costa Rica. Obviously there are much more important things happening in Chile right now though. On that note, I hope the Chile team is able to lift the nation with an impressive performance in South Africa.

A review of Japan’s win over Bahrain in the Asian Cup today can be found here — http://japan.worldcupblog.org/group-f/a-win-a-win-japan-beat-bahrain-2-0.html

Now if only England can bang in a couple it will have been a good day!

I think the combination of the Africa Cup of Nations, firing their coach, and today’s loss to Korea Republic should officially knock the Ivory Coast from “African favorite”.

  • Liam

I think england can win the world cup this time with rooney’s form.
