German Architect: South Africa Stadiums will be Completed on Time
The rush to get South Africa ready in time for the kickoff of the 2010 World Cup is on, but according to one of the lead architects involved in the construction of three new stadiums the job will get done.
Hubert Nienhoff, a German architect who has helped to design stadiums for Cape Town, Durban and Port Elizabeth, said that South Africa’s lack of regulations will make the construction process faster than it was in Germany.
By the sounds of things, the three new stadiums could be real jewels. King’s Park Stadium in Durban will seat 85,000 people and will be designed after the pattern of the South African flag. The stadium in Port Elizabeth will be named after Nelson Mandela and will seat 40,000, while the new arena in Cape Town will have a retractable roof and will seat 70,000.
And there is this piece of good news for residents of South Africa. Some tickets might be greatly discounted or even free for those who can’t afford to shell out World Cup-type money to see the games.

I’m glad South Africa is getting a chance to host the world cup. It was time for an Afican Nation to host the world’s party.
I’m sure it will be a great success.

Isn’t South Africa like the muder capital of the world?
Or is that for car theft?
Or maybe its both.
Either way… wont this cause a few problems..?

The all knowing power of google…
Pretty much every country and lots of cities have claimed the title.

I’m glad to hear that South Africans will be able to afford to go to the games in their own country!
for the Sydney Olympics (and for others also(?)) there was a nationwide lottery for seats (though they still cost a bit) I thought that was a very fair system.

About the murder thing, wasn’t Argentina under a ‘ruthless military dictatorship’ when they hosted the 1978 World Cup? Glad FIFA is giving the chance to an African nation to host the world’s biggest sporting event. Now all it remains is for the hosts to step up to the plate and prove to the world how far African football has progressed in the last 15 years. We wait with bated breath.

All this negativity of South Africa holding the World Cup is getting old. Give the South Africans a chance before you make pre-judgements. I think its going to be a huge success personally. Everyone can see how we Africans throw a party on the world stage.

Maybe South Africa instead of spending money to organize and host the next WC should first solve the internal problems.
Pls do not get me wrong nothing against SA but we should face the reality and money should be spent in a different way. Also because not always hosting a big event like WC is paying out with return of money.
Just an example coming from Italy. Rome was the lead candidate to host the next olimpic games with very good chance to get them.
But the major of city with the government decided to decline the candidature because of overall economic situation.

South Africa is actually wealthier than Brazil and Mexica (GDP per capita — look it up for real)–if these two countries have hosted the cup before, South Africa can certainly do it. By the way, Brazil has never been known as a safe country– yet it was given a chance to throw the party. Please leave the south africans alone.

Thanx for that tidbit of information dan it was helpful. No I didnt mean it to be rude or negative.
Its just no one wants those cmpetetions that teams have to withdraw from due to problems besides the game. (At a recent Copa America in Columbia, Argentina withdrew because of terrorist threats).
I’m not at all suggesting something like that would happen. But it’d be a shame if it did and I’d just hope they’d step things up to make sure the world cup winner is decided y soccer play.
