Free World Cup 2010 Tickets, With Almost No Catch
FIFA are fishing for good publicity in advance of today’s draw for 2010 World Cup qualifying in Durban. While the cheapest and easiest way to see a 2006 World Cup game in the flesh was as one of the world governing body’s numerous corporate guests, FIFA general secretary Jerome Valcke (pictured, looking a lot like Giles from Buffy the Vampire Slayer) has announced discounts on 2010 tickets for South African residents, and there’ll be 120,000 tickets available at the very reasonable discount of 100%.
That’s 120,000 free tickets for people who call South Africa home. The slight catch is that these tickets will be available via the World Cup’s countless commercial sponsors, and it hasn’t been decided whether they’ll be dished out on a first come first served basis or as prizes for corporate sponsored competitions. Still, a free World Cup 2010 ticket? I’d even drink Budweiser.
