FIFA™ Gets its 2010™ World Cup™ Trademark on

By: WC Bob | July 17th, 2007 | 2 Comments »

If there is one thing that we all know by now it is that FIFA is in the business of making money. The world’s football governing body will talk the good talk about promoting the sport and peace worldwide and to some degree it does, but the bottom line is the bottom line.

Another thing we know all too well around this site is that FIFA’s bottom line is something they don’t want you to mess with. That is why they have a slew of lawyers on hand if you try to encroach on their territory. Like if you try to use the words “World Cup 2010″, for example. FIFA has applied for the trademark to those words and many, many more.

• 2010 FIFA WORLD CUP SOUTH AFRICA
• WORLD CUP 2010
• RSA 2010
• FOOTBALL WORLD CUP
• FIFA WORLD CUP
• SOUTH AFRICA 2010
• SA 2010
• 2010 FIFA WORLD CUP
• AFRICA 2010
• SOCCER WORLD CUP
• WORLD CUP
• SOUTH AFRICA WORLD CUP
• 2010
• ALL NAMES OF ALL SA VENUE CITIES WITH THE FIGURE 2010 BEHIND THEM
• TWENTY TEN
• WORLD CUP SOUTH AFRICA
• CONFEDERATIONS CUP
• WIN IN AFRICA FOR AFRICA
• FOOTBALL FOR A BETTER WORLD

For those entrepreneurial types, you can still apply for a trademark for $outh Africa 2010 and $occer World Cup. Those might be a more accurate description of the event anyway.

How about them registering every country and calendar year especially since they have yearly tournaments — 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, etc.
