Coca Cola Is Ready To Move On To 2014

If yesterday’s Brazil 2014 logo unveiling was curious, this is absolutely ludicrous. Coca Cola has, with two days left to run on the current World Cup, begun pimping the 2014 edition, with a familiar soundtrack, because we have nothing better to do for the next four years in int’l footy outside of wait for the thunderous Maracana. (Alright, that actually sounds…is it 2014 yet?)

Of course it’s the Brazilian edition thus aimed at Brazilians who are looking forward to 2014 with the disappointment of 2010 now behind, and there’s also considering I have no idea what the voice is saying – he could be calling the female members of my family all sorts of unsanitary names for all I know – but it still seems, oh, a touch premature.

    Here's a translation:

The 2010 FIFA world cup is coming to an end [hence the sad looking kids sitting on the ground]

But we have so much more to celebrate [kid smiles, gets up and starts playing keepy-uppy]

In 2014, the world cup will be in Brazil [background suddenly turns into stadium with people cheering]

Announcer in the background: “welcome to the world cup in Brazil!'

It will be so much better [or more enjoyable] to commemorate it in Brazil!

Coca-cola, together with Brazil in 2014.

also, you guys seem to be taken aback by the unveiling of the logo before the end of this world cup. this is not unique. that unveiling took place during the traditional ceremony/presentation toward the end of each world cup (usually before the final) in which the current host country hands over the tournament reigns to the next host country – who then proceeds to give a presentation with speeches, videos, musical artists, etc. That includes unveiling the new logo. The ceremony/presentation was shown live on Globo TV yesterday.

It's interesting though how fast coke jumped on the 2014 band wagon. As if 2010 is the cup to forget huh (notice the can in the video that already bears the 2014 logo).

Well it's in Brazil, basically the mecca of football. I can understand that they're very excited about it, especially from a monetary perspective.

South Africans will love to read this. But hey, they won't get the WC again before 2094.
