Blatter Back on the South Africa Bandwagon
FIFA czar-for-life Sepp Blatter seems to have an on again, off again relationship with South Africa. After heading there a few weeks back to fire up the troops so that things will go smoothly at the World Cup in 2010, Blatter said today that South Africa is up to the task and is, in fact, ahead of Germany’s schedule from four years ago.
‘I’ve seen more at this point than I did in Germany,’ Blatter said of South Africa’s preparations.
‘There were still a lot of uncertainties in Germany four years before the World Cup there,’ he said. ‘Down there, they only have to build five stadiums and renovate one more. Four are already there.’
It is nice to see that Blatter took his happy pills today. We can all only hope that his optimistic predictions will come true.

Well, it will be a very succesful world cup even though many are wishing that it is taken to US (who apparently want it just as bad as the Australians since the 2018 edition is heading back to Europe). Too bad, because that is not going to happen.

WC2010 will be a big flop. South Africa bit off more than it can chew. FIFA is already looking around for other venues to transfer the cup to just in case. South Africa is more interested in playing cricket than the #1 sport in the world. South Africa lacks the infrastructure to host anything other than the cricket cup or the rugby cup. Outside England and some of it’s former colonies there is no interest in cricket and rugby though it’s an exciting sport has yet to catch on world-wide. None of the prior hosts of the world cup had to move one of it’s matches to Europe because they couldn’t get enough home fans to fill a stadium. I guess the gangs in the townships want the world cup so they can have rich victims to rob/kill at gun point.

Good points Pokie. It does appear that South Africa is trying real hard to get the world cup transferred somewhere else. I do hope they get their act together and make this a successful event. It won’t be able to match what Germany accomplished this year but that would be a difficult thing for other sites to accomplish too. Good luck Kuhura.
