Argentina Get a Surprisingly Warm Welcome Home

dm

This genuinely made me smile. Because after Argentina’s 4-0 disaster against Germany, I didn’t expect the albiceleste players or coach Diego Maradona to get a particularly pleasant welcome home to Buenos Aires. I was wrong:

Thousands of fans gathered to cheer the players as the team bus left the airport in Buenos Aries, including banners showing support for the idea of Diego Maradona remaining in charge of the team, with the Copa America taking place in Argentina next year. You can see the players’ reactions towards the end of the video, and seems they’re somewhat surprised by the warmth of the welcome.

I say well done to those flag-waving Argentina fans, who might be an example to us all. Because supporting your team means exactly that. It means supporting your team even after a 4-0 quarterfinal defeat and letting the players know you’re still behind them, even when they’ve failed to meet your expectations.

He really should stay on. the players like him, the fans love him. i think he will learn from this experience. I mean several “seasoned” coaches have failed before w/ their teams (Minoti 1982, Libi 2010, Carlos Alberto 2006, and Capello 2010)….I think he could also put the personal issues w/ other players aside as well… I think he will grow better from this loss

This is a lovely video..I really think all of us should firmly be behind Argentina. Afterall this is our very own team who we were supporting until the quarterfinlas. Now lets wait and see if its Maradona or someone else coaches the team but whoever it is I hope makes a team who will be no pushovers. Love you Argentina.

    VAMOS!!

I don't believe this. It is like as if they had won the WC . . .

Nice to see, especially since a group of Albiceleste supporters had insulted Diego at the end of the Germany v. Argentina match back in South Africa.

It is great…Deigo made some mistake choosing players and tactics… But people understand…And surely we will comeback strong in 2014.
