A record 204 Teams to compete for 2010 World Cup

By: WC Bob | March 30th, 2007 | 13 Comments »

Pick a country, any country. Chances are that the country you picked will be trying to qualify for the 2010 World Cup. A record 204 teams are entered to take part in the fun. No surprise that it is a record since every four years there are more and more countries out there. The big question is what the hell is wrong with Bhutan, Brunei, Laos and the Philippines? Those are the only FIFA recognized countries not to enter the competition. Maybe they should join forces, have the Sultan of Bhutan buy an island and create one team to represent them all.

204 countries is a lot. Hopefully my native country Ethiopia can do the unthinkable and qualify. Its been a longgggg time since an East African country has qualified for the World Cup since the North and West African countries have been dominating African football.

204 demonstrates how soccer is a trully global sport! And every country—–except the four above—- wants to stand up and be counted! I hope that East Africa will be represented in South Africa come 2010! But with Kenya getting suspended from FIFA every one and half years and having parallel leagues and leaders; Uganda changong coaches like a sweat shirt and Tanzania hardly paying outside their borders, chances are really slim! But give it a try! Miracles still happen!

Lionel, just stay home and don’t come to South Africa in 2010 – simple. There is nothing that you say or do that will deter the millions of soccer fans to follow their team of choice, and there really is nothing that you say or do that will stop the 2010 world cup being staged in South Africa – nada, so get on with the program; put up or shut up!!! The people who decided to award the tournament to South Africa have a much better judgement than you. That goes for you too ‘Blood Clot’, I know you are reading this.

Yes, Kahuru the world cup is always a unique and wonderful experience. I just hope the RSA gets everything finished on time. It would be sad if WC2010 had to be given to Europe or the USA. Good to hear that all of the RSA is working hard and together to fullfill this dream for a whole continent.

Pokemoon, stop being a yellow bellied liar, we all know that you wish South Africa to fail, and yes you will be jumping for joy if that were to happen. In any case, I am just speaking hypothetically because that will never happen so you might as well spare us the theatrics!!!
