World Cup Referees to use Communication System
FIFA is currently testing a few communication devices that will allow the head referee to communicate with the two assistants and the fourth official during the match. From my perspective, this seems like a common sense move that has already been introduced with success in a few leagues in the world and it would be a welcome addition to the World Cup. I say that especially after reading this quote: “One of the most important things is to make sure there is no interference, and that people can’t listen into the conversations,” said Garcia Aranda, a former World Cup referee. Wouldn’t it be great to be able to listen in on what the referees are saying?
Assistant: Hey, that Ronaldo guy was 6 meters offside before he scored. Should we call it?
Referee: No, Sepp told us that Brazil has to make the finals. We better let it slide. Everyone expects us to blow calls anyway.
Assistant: What are you doing after the game?
Referee: I’m thinking about going out to dinner with Klinsmann. He is treating.
Assistant: Cool. We should [chuckles] eat up to keep our strength for the Germany game we are refereeing tomorrow.
Referee: Exactly. I’ll drive. I’ve been meaning to test out the Ferrari the Italians bought me last week. Nice fellows. I bet they make it the the finals [evil laughter]
Assistant: Sorry, I’m running out of roaming minutes. I’ll talk to you again before the start of injury time.

Very funny!!!

I like it! Your conversation is both entertaining and possibly correct on what runs through their minds at times. Although as an official I would think it is difficult for the center to have an earpiece and not complain ost of the time about the irritation.
