World Cup Rap Off: Clint Dempsey vs. Peter Crouch

With his now infamous Robot Dance goal celebration, England’s Peter Crouch is living la vida loco and sucking up his 15 minutes of fame. In addition to being a dancing fool, as you’ll see in the video below the big man can throw down some nasty lyrics. Crouch’s rapping performance is one for the ages, but how does it stand up to that of United States midfielder Clint “Duece” Dempsey? You be the judge.

gotta fall aroundlaughing at the line “like the great Clint Dempsey!”

Just confirms what I knew – the US isn’t going to make it out of the first round. Too good at rapping, not good enough at football.

Crouchie may be gangly, ugly, can’t sing, etc., but he can lay the ball off, make his run, take the return, swivel and hit the half volley into the corner better than Dempsey ever will.

AND he knows his job on the team – it is to pull defenders off other players and lay the ball in to someone like Owen darting in. I rate him because he does his job well.

He’s the reason Terry got the goal against Uruguay. two defenders moved to cover him on the cross and left Terry open at the back post. And because he can take his shot they can’t afford to just ignore him.

But I totally agree – he shouldn’t be allowed near a microphone…

…and the Dempsey rap is actually pretty good (if rather more about Nike than the US!)

[...] Talking about Flash, YouTube is literally exploding with pre-World Cup goodness and goofyness. See The Peter Crouch Story for some robot dance, a World Cup 2002 compilation, a World Cup 2006 preview, Alan Partridge’s World Cup 1994 countdown showing how a goal should not be narrated, how football players can rap (answer: depends on what continent you’re from), the biggest “WTF?” moment from the recent friendlies (a goalkeeper scoring a goal from across the field), and some other funny moments in the history of football. How some people don’t like football I’ll never understand. [...]
