World Cup Goes Green

By: WC Bob | February 16th, 2006 | No Comments »

At World Cup Blog we are quick to point out FIFA’s many mistakes. From ticket scams to preventing David Hasselhoff from performing at the World Cup opening gala to stadium safety issues, football’s governing body has made a number of blunders this year. But we are also big enough boys and girls to celebrate that rare thing or two that FIFA does right. Today we will lend our cyber applause to FIFA’s Green Goal Iniative.

Through smart planning, the World Cup is set to become the first “climate neutral” sporting event. Stadiums have been built with solar roofs, dry toilets, rainwater collection tanks and will have increased public transportation to the events.

All of this means that the only environmental disaster we’ll see in Germany this summer is the flood of tears coming from Spanish fans after their team is eliminated in group play.
