World Cup Berlin Fan Fest: Fun but tiring

By: Nick O'Neill | June 13th, 2006 | 1 Comment »

Here in Berlin the Fan Fest, at Brandenburg Gate is the place to be if you don’t have tickets to the Olympic Stadium. Fan Mile is lined with beer stalls, snack places and big screens. It attracts fans from many countries, including Scotland fans sporting shirts with ‘World Cup ‘78′ on. The one thing fan Fest does not have is shade, and in the summer heat, the combination of beer and sun can make even the most rabid fan wilt.

If you want a fun experience that you’ll remember, where you can rub elbows with fans from around the world, Fan Fest is the place. If you want good viewing in some kind of comfort, I’d go for a bar or stay at home.

The Authorities should start pitching tents up like those used in Parks and Gardens.
