Winners and Losers of the World Cup Week
This week we inched within two months of the start of the World Cup. We learned who will represent the Soca Warriors in Germany, while also learning that one of Iran’s stars has two wives. We showed you cool video from Burma, England and places in between. We unveiled the initial World Cup Blog Power Rankings and we managed to really piss off FIFA, the guys who revealed they made gobs of money last year. We reported the Saudis won’t have porn or booze in Germany, but they might see some skin in the form of a female linesman from France. Just another week in our legally questionable universe. Here are some winners and losers.
Winners
Bigamy - Mehdi Mahdavikia makes a case that two wives are better than one.
Burma – Even though it is ruled by a bunch of tyrants worse than FIFA and even though we mistakenly thought this video was made in Thailand, it is great to see something so beautiful come from that Myanamar joint.
Fantasies - You can live out your footie fantasies in our league, while the Saudi Arabia team will have to come up with their own without the aid of porn, booze and paintings of naked boys.
Sepp’s Bank Account – FIFA is rolling in the money and they have every intention of keeping things that way even if they can’t stop women of the night from being women of the night.
Equality – Everyone deserves the right to be part of the most hated group of people on a soccer pitch
Losers
Boycotts – France coach Raymond Domenech calls for coaching unity on announcing rosters but T&T’s Beenhaaker ignores him.
World Cup ticket contests – We have a better chance of being invited to Sepp Blatter’s house for Easter dinner than we do of winning free swag from our friends at Budweiser.
Perfection – The World Cup is nearly perfect, but there are some ways it could be better.
Jose Mourinho – He might coach the best team in England and he might help out with our favorite World Cup team, but we can’t move him from his permanent place in the loser column quite yet.
