how about Carlos Tevez, who also plays for Corinthians? May not have scored a goal, but he did look dangerous and earned a starting spot over Saviola against Germany. Yet another Argentine who has been called “the next Maradona”

You can’t necesarily deduct that a great showing in the world cup will lead to consistent performances in the premiership or any other league.

That said most of these players will probably move up and out as you say.

You forgot a very notable player. Lukas Podolski currently plays for Koln (cologne) well… not for long!

i would have to think he is headed for one of the big german sides or one of the other big euro leagues like spain or england.

Mascherano and Ribery before the world cup were seen as potential players who could become great, I think the world cup has been the first stepping to proving people this is the case. Jaziri I think before the world cup was already considered a very good player.

The one thing you have to be careful with though. Players like Frank Lampard and Ronaldinho have had poor world cups but last domestic league season and I bet next season will be two of the best players again.

Manchester United have fallen at least twice to the lure of players playing well at international competitions. Diego Forlan and Karel Pobosrky anyone?
