We Could Use Some of that Beckenbauer Love

We’ve been feeling a little depressed lately at World Cup Blog. The World Cup is still months away, our hairline continues to recede at a rapid pace and that belly we started growing back in college seems like it will never go away. While some of our friends are eager to get us to see a therapist or to take some happy pills, we’ve decided the thing that would cheer us up the best would be a visit by Franz Beckenbauer. The Kaiser has been travelling to World Cup countries both near and far dishing out compliments like they are going out of business.

Here are some examples of the love Franz is showing his hosts around the world.

Trinidad
“You’re going to beat England right?”

Argentina
“I think Brazil and Argentina are the two best teams in the world at the moment and when they play each other, either one can win.”

England
“For me, England are still the best team in Europe.”

Spain
“Everyone knows Spain’s style of play. All they need is to come good in a major tournament and why not at this one? They are one of the main challengers for the title on a similar level to France, England, Italy, Germany and Argentina.”

Brazil
“My personal top favourite is Brazil, they are full of world-class players and also impressed in the Confederations Cup,”
