Wayne Rooney takes “aggressive manner” with England Fan Following Croatia Loss

By: WC Bob | October 12th, 2006 | 17 Comments »

England’s Wayne Rooney can’t really catch a break these days. In addition to his well documented scoring slump, he continues to attract detractors and to get into off the pitch scraps. You’ll recall that the 20-year-old author/forward was on the winning end of a fight with Blackburn defender Michael Gray at a club last month.

No word yet who won this one, but Rooney apparently was involved in an altercation with a heckling England fan following his team’s dismal loss to Croatia on Wednesday. Rooney is described as taking an “aggressive manner” towards the bozo fan as he boarded the team bus.

Rooney’s spokesman said: “Any gesture Wayne may have made was directed to one, and only one, particular England fan, whose behaviour towards him appalled the other England players who saw it and horrified the rest of the England fans. Wayne has total respect for England fans. He accepts and understands their disappointment at last night’s result.”

Who knows if Rooney is in the wrong or right here, but one thing is clear, he needs to start hitting the back of the net soon or he’ll likely be tempted to hit an increasing number of critics in the future.

I hope Rooney can learn to keep his emotions in check. He is such a talented young player, It would be a shame if his lack of control would limit the positive contributions he has to make to the game of football.

How long would it take for Materazzi to get Rooney to go ballistic if England meet Italy at Euro 2008? 10 minutes? 5? During national anthems?

I think that Rooney is highly over-rated and over hyped. He is a “one-trick pony” (it seems that all he ever does is try and shoot from outside the box or barge his way through it).

Rooney will continue the rest of his career bullying the likes of Charlton and B olton and striving for yellow cards in international tournaments when confronrted by good defenders who can handle over-rated strikers.

So, most if not all of the post match talk, here and in the press, will not be about how “average” he really is but about how his temperment let the great genius down.

Wkae up England; Rooney is a Thug who is likely to end up in prison very soon.

Trent/ Beto

Think back boys how did you behave at aged 20? and I am sure neither of you had any of the pressure Rooney is under!! Is it his fault he is talented, gifted even in the ability to play football. He is promoted and exposed by clubs and there only interested is the bottom line MONEY. However, as I am sure both of you will agree, experience and the ability to handle people taunting you and aggrevating you comes with age and experience, especially after just losing a match. Please be realistic, this could be either of you two’s own son.

Just remember your own behaviour at 20. Today professional football players become younger and younger, they see the big lights and the big money it is all very exciting for them but they are neither ready or equppied at such a young age to deal with the negativity and aggression that a lot of them face from their own fans and those of other teams. Don’t be hard on the guy just remember your own youth.

I don’t think age has anything to do with it, look at Zidane, what’s his excuse at 30 years of age?

I’m sorry, but why does it look like Wayne has a bit of a belly in that picture? Don’t soccer players run around a lot? :) Honestly, he doesn’t really look like he’s in that good of shape…

insearchoffootball,

I think I read a little bit of ‘the green eyed monster’ in your blog. I am sure you just wished you had half his talent and where in his boots.

He acts like an immature young juvenille.if he were not kicking a ball he’d be running amok in toxteth more than likely robbing peoples houses setting light to cars and joyriding.put quite simply he’s a little thug n i hope he breaks his leg so badly that he’ll never play again.
can’t wait to see the back of him, overated overpaid……over

insearchoffootball.
Did you realise that when you start to insult others on the blog you are vertually saying ” I can’t win this arguement, however I am certainly not going to agree with what they say on principal” so you eventually start throwing insults around. quote ‘Jane you are pathetic” unquote, well that is your opinion, you are entitled to it, however you are very wrong. As for Rooney, he will be around for a long time, the guy hasn’t even ‘peaked’ yet, he is 20 years old. Perhaps when you reach that glorious age you will realise you are still a very young person with a lot ahead of you. Here I am assuming you are very young, because if you weren’t you wouldn’t have made such a silly statement. Have a nice time growing up.

Hey, at least the guy has some passion for the game, a lot of the rest of the team don’t seem like they care. An ‘agressive stance’ doesn’t sound all that bad, it’s not like he hit him.
