Watching Germany vs. Colombia friendly
Sean, Bob, Chris and I are sitting in the World Cup Blog HQ in Berlin, about to head out and watch the Germany vs. Colombia friendly.
The game is being played in Moenchengladback, near Dusseldorf, but we will see it on TV. I reckon Germany needs to get serious and start kicking some ass, if they want to do anything in this World Cup. A 1-0 win won’t impress anybody, they need to fire 3-0, or 4-0 against Colombia, to really get people inspired.
Being here in Berlin, I don’t feel the locals are excited about the World Cup right now, but if their team has a good chance of winning, they would be. We’re hoping Germany does well in the tournament, as it will make a way better atmosphere all over the country.
Update: Watching the warm up game between Germany & Colombia, here in Berlin, I can see Germany clawing their way through the competition.
Sean, Bob, Chris an I went to a Mexican restaurant near Alexander Platz. The place had about 5 other customers and the atmosphere was subdued. Colombia never really looked like they had much of an attack, and at times were happy just to get the ball out of their area. Germany didn’t look like a well oiled machine yet, but had enough control and passing ability to set up plenty of chances. As they improve, I think they will look more like a genuine contender.

I’m Colombian and I don’t think my team is not going to be easily defeated. They’ve been playing well lately. They are missing Yepes, Cordoba and a few others but it will be an interesting game to watch. Look for the play of Elkin Soto in the midfiel, Hugo Rodallega as a forward and Perea as a stronghold in the defense.
Klinsmann needs to be know by now who’s their starter lineup. I think Lehman needs to be the goalkeeper.

The Germans just scored. A header by Ballack. 1 - 0.

2-0. Schweinsteiger scored on a free kick that wend under the wall.
Colombia is easily being defeated by the German pressure.
I thought it was going to be harder for the Germans but like it always is for my team. They get scared easily when they play huge opponents.

3-0 Germany, Germany has almost a complete control over the game.

Germany play much better today. They dominated the Colombian team for the entire game.
I did not see the game. Did the Colombian team showed up? It doesn’t look like they did. Anyone?

Columbia was shocking - no offense - unorganized. Or maybe Germany was that good. Either way, Columbia looked like they did not deserve to be in the World Cup. ![]()

Hey Yovany!
You said Germany dominated “for the entire game,” but then you said you didn’t see it. So how do you know?
Sometimes the score board can lie and cover up mistakes. For example, sometimes a team has lapses on defense but the other team is unable to put the ball in the net.
Anyway, I hope that all Germans think like you. Juergen Klinsman should pat everyone on the back and stop coaching.
Oh wait, he hasn’t really been coaching anyway. So I guess…congrats on beating a team that’s not going to the Cup!

Sean, Colombia is NOT in the World Cup. Maybe that’s why they didn’t look like they deserved to be there?

I know how my country (Colombia) plays when they are going against a soccer superpower. They are somewhat lazy and some players seem to dissapear in crucial moments of the game.
Sean, Colombia is not going to the World Cup because they lost too many points as a home team and they sometimes lack that “Amor por la camiseta” - Love for the country>”
Good luck to Germany and to everybody in the world cup. I’ll be watching every game and pulling for the Latin American teams.
Watchout!! for Portugal, the Czechs, Croatia, and Ivory Coast.
