Vindictive Blanco Supporters a Threat to Lavolpe’s Family
I once spent an entire winter in Siberia watching Mexican telenovelas dubbed in Russian. These extremely dramatic soap operas always featured crazy plot twists, wars between families and women who looked like they were torn from the pages of a fashion magazine. It wasn’t a bad way to escape from the reality of the -40 degree weather outside. I thought about this today when I read about the developing soap opera between Mexico forward Cuauhtemoc Blanco and coach Ricardo Lavolpe, who has left Blanco off of El Tri’s World Cup roster.
Like any good telenovela this one has a hero (Blanco) and a villain (Lavolpe). It also offers the promise of revenge violence.
“The supporters are vindictive and they do not forget anything,” said Blanco, while combing his golden hair and being massaged by a pair of drop dead gorgeous twins. “If Lavolpe does not have a good performance, he will have a lot of problems in this country. The supporters could go to his house to look for his family.”
To which Lavolpe replied with a menacing sneer in between puffs of a cigarette, “He must not talk like that. If my family suffer, I will know who the suspect is. Football is not about families or threats.”
One good thing about telenovelas is that they generally only last for a limited time so stayed tuned for the dramatic finaleā¦
