US Team heads to Germany, hopes no one expects too much

By: Peter | June 1st, 2006 | 10 Comments »

After three games, three days rest and reserving three seats for Oguchi Onyewu, the US team is on their way to Germany and will resume practice on Friday. The Associated Press happened by a talk among several of the players, so you can read about that here, but I loved the part where Landon Donovan blamed “a ton of running” for the “occasional lackluster” play of the US team during friendlies. Here’s hoping the US can avoid that kind of exertion in the future.

Brian Ching emphasized the importance of Claudio “We’re going to need him if we’re going to go far” Reyna and downplayed the expectations brought on by FIFA’s number five world ranking. “People have to understand it’s a tough group,” he said.

The team flew from Newark to Hamburg, which will serve as the team’s base camp during their time on the international stage in the European theater. Hooray for metaphors.

I luv wat u put about donovan.Typical AMERICAN style. You play bad u dont run full speed for 2 seconds have fun sprinting at practice. That is the problem with the USA they think there practicing for Track & Field instead of Soccer

They fly to Germany in Beech 1900C and a Beech 1900D… That would be a bit cramped for what would be a long flight with a few stops in those things.

I love it when the rest of the world talks sh*t about US. We are not a futbal country. most of the people in this country would rather watch 9 fat guys around a fly ball. So, GO USA. make us proud and make the rest of the world even that much more jealous. and F*CK Bush!!

Geez, gotta get in your political digs wherever you can, eh?

Oh, and that picture must be a stock picture from the poster. The story doesn’t mention anything about flying in a Beech whatsit at all.

Look guys, you can talk all the crap you want about the US and nobody will care, because soccer is a fourth tier sport here. Save your craptalk for when your team gets thumped by the Oranje and El Tri. And don’t count out us Yanks. We might have a surprise or two up our sleeves…

Wow, chill people. I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but the post and the comments were made by people from the USA, so you don’t have to go all defensive on this.

The airplane picture is just a small joke, as have been all pictures on all articles on the site.

I agree ze. It seems on a lot of the blogs people are angry, mostly us from the US. Obviously we must have a chip on our shoulder, or we have eaten too much McDonalds.

Let’s talk about the sport and the chances of the US doing well (note I do not say “win”).

Being a pilot and a huge aviation fan I new the yanks would not fly within Germany on 19 seat commuters let alone from USA to Germany. What I did find interesting is that the news footage showed the Americans come of an Airbus Corporate Jet (ACJ) opposed to an American made Boeing Business Jet (BBJ). I’m making the assumption they would have flown in the up most comfort i.e. private jet and not an airliner.

For what it is worth the Beech 1900 is a good machine for what it is designed for.

If Croatia beat Brazil in the first match than you watch, Australia and Croatia will get through.

The US will do well because we have a great team defense and spectacular speed on counterattacks. We clearly dont have the most talent but the way the team is constructed with speed and defense, those teams that push too many players forward will have a sorry time trying to beat the US. A good well rounded team will beat Team USA, not Italy or Ghana. USA advances to secound round.
