Ukraine Draws against Azerbaijan
Playing without super striker Andriy Shevchenko Ukraine could only manage a 0-0 draw against Azerbaijan in a friendly played in Baku today. Shevchenko was allowed to miss this match because coach Oleg Blokhin wanted a chance to take a look at some of his other players. What he ended up seeing was a rather feeble offensive attack and a predictably strong showing from Ukraine’s defense against a punchless Azeri team. Ukraine ended up playing Azerbaijan after it cancelled what would have been a more interesting match against fellow World Cup qualifier Iran.
The final friendly today featuring a World Cup team is set to kick off in a little over an hour when Iceland plays Trinidad and Tobago.
