Training Sessions aren’t Quite as Fun as the Commercials

By: WC Bob | May 26th, 2006 | 10 Comments »

One thing we’ve learned from watching Brazil’s World Cup training camp on television is that practices are pretty darn boring. Sure there are some fun moments when the players get to show off their skills, but there’s also countless minutes of standing around, stretching and more standing around. If you are a fan of Brazil, however, the training broadcasts are must-see television. No wonder our Brazil blogger Euler is having so much fun.

One player that everyone is looking at, of course, is Ronaldo. He’s struggled in practice but is trying to play through the pain. “I’m having muscular pains but any sacrifice is worthy for the national team,” he said.

One area where he isn’t struggling is in the bidding on Ebay for the right to stay in his room after Brazil checks out of their Swiss hotel resort. With a little more than two days to go, Ronaldo’s room is well ahead of Ronaldinho’s in the race for the top bid. Perhaps the people bidding think that the room will come included with Ronaldo’s significant other.

UPDATE: Of course right after I post this, the fun really begins.

For those who don’t get the Brazil practice channel as part of your television packaes, here’s some video of Brazil standing around during training and the Swiss crowds trying their best to get a glimpse of the players.

Watched the clip and its so true…not like the adverts at all…not even the samba music while they train to get them in the mood..will Brazil be discpilned enough in the world cup to take on teams such as England with fast players such as Owen and Lennon if he plays..maybe Walcott???

Too bad they didn’t show the good stuff, when they play attack vs. defence. They didn’t show the blond woman that grabbed Ronaldinho today too.

It’s always struck me as funny that practice looks the same whether it’s my U12 travelling team or the Brazilian national team.

The games, however, are slightly different.

And that “significant other” Daniella Ciccareli is Ronaldo’s ex-wife. His new girlfriend is even hotter.

[...] I’m really having a ball watching the Seleção training sessions. Bob got us a video to show how boring it can be, but what the video doesn’t show is a great variety of sweet moments that will remain tattooed in my Brazilian heart. Of course I find it very dull to see a bunch of men doing routine exercises like anybody else, but what gets me smiling is the reaction of the crowd captured by the cameras from time to time. The little kids screaming Dida’s name and realizing that Dida is capable of smiling too, which configures a rare moment if you know that goalkeeper. [...]

hey there, I’m flying out to Berlin today.

What I’m interested in if anyone can help me out, is where and when are all these public training sessions taking place?

Does anyone know of any teams training near Berlin and are they all open to the public?

I’e been searching the internet for some kind of schedule of teams training but can’t find much. Any help much appreciated.

thanks

Farhan
