Top 10 Most Attractive World Cup Teams for Corporate Sponsors

By: WC Bob | May 18th, 2006 | 1 Comment »

Between FIFA’s rankings and the World Cup Blog Power Rankings, it seems like we can’t go a day without seeing the various World Cup teams listed from top to bottom. Today, we get to take a look at another list of rankings. This one shows the ten teams that are most attractive to corporate sponsors. You probably can guess the top ranked team since they are number one in all the rankings and you can’t go a second without seeing them in a Nike commercial. But the rest of the list is fairly interesting.

1. Brazil
2. France
3. England
4. Portugal
5. Italy
6. Spain
7. Argentina
8. South Korea
9. Netherlands
10. Ghana

The name that sticks out is Ghana, a World Cup debutant from a small population country. Our Ghana blogger Starry Wisdom tries to explains the reasons why his team is so attractive, but we’re not too sure if we can really believe that Ghana’s appeal comes from the “international fame of the Black Stars logo”. No doubt it is a dandy logo, but would that be enough to convince you to buy a product from Michael Essien?

Notably absent from the list is Germany whose commercial appeal is apparently limited to inside its on borders. We can’t help but think that they are bound to become “more attractive” once Oliver Kahn’s nightmarish mug is retired.
