Togo Wins the Miss World Cup Beauty Pageant

Not a single person is this universe is giving the Sparrowhawks of Togo a chance to win the World Cup, but the African nation won’t be going home empty handed from Germany now that its representative has been named Miss World Cup 2006. In a star studded affair in Rust, Germany Thursday, representatives for all 32 countries battled it out in a contest of beauty and brains.

In the end, Togo’s Edwige Madze Badakcu took home the delightfully elegant crown and the title of Miss World Cup 2006. She also gets some cash and a car for a year. Ms. Badakcu reportedly won over the judges with her grace and quick wit.

For those scoring at home or with money riding on the competition, you’ll want to know that Spain finished second (she was the favorite but came up short) and Ecuador was third. But really, all the women are winners for just making it there.

Here are some photos of the women who represented your favorite countries.

And here are some video highlights of the women drinking cocktails and having their hair done. This might be the most bizarre video I have posted to date. Make sure you listen to the music too.

[...] The Sydney Review is reporting that some Australians are giving the World Cup the red card, calling them World Cup wet blankets, which is just the latest in a succession of anti-football uprisings. Maybe they’d be more friendly if they got to know Togo’s newly crowned Miss World Cup. [...] Germany 3 – Colombia 0 The host nation looked good beating up on a Colombia team that has already tied and beaten fellow Group A teams Ecuador and Poland respectively. Germany’s first two goals came off of set pieces with Bastian Schweinsteiger setting up Michael Ballack on the first and knocking a free kick home on the other. If not for poor finishing, Germany would have won by significantly more. Alas, no keeper goals in this one, but a good confidence booster for a German team that could use one. Togo 1 – Lichtenstein 0 Following the news that their country’s representative was crowned Miss World Cup and the revelation that the spirits say they’ll make the final 16, the Sparrowhawks picked up a win against the country known for its stamps. Kader Mohamed picked up the goal for Togo in the 55th minute. The spirits are happy. [...]
