Togo Coach Denies Sacking

Is he or isn’t he? Togo coach Stephen Keshi today denied published reports that he was fired last week by the Togolese football federation. Speaking to the BBC, Keshi said: “I have not been told by anyone at the Togolese federation that I have lost my job and I remain in Togo to honour my contractual obligations to them.”

Keshi was named the African coach of the year last week after leading the tiny west African nation to the World Cup. A disgraceful performance in the African Cup of Nations also earned Keshi the coveted award of African coach most likey to be sacked. Somehow I don’t think we have heard the last of this drama, which can only become more dramatic if Keshi is linked to Sven’s job in England. So today World Cup Blog will officially start the rumor that Keshi is the next coach of England. Go ahead, try to prove us wrong.

Pfister, who has been coach of Zaire and Ghana, and has worked with teams in Egypt and Tunisia, takes over a Togo team in turmoil following a pathetic showing at the African Cup of Nations. [...]
