Tickets Have Arrived!

By: Chris Heidrich | May 13th, 2006 | 8 Comments »

World Cup TicketsThe excitement for the World Cup has been slowly building for the last five months here at the World Cup Blog bunker. From reading all the latest news articles, watching highlight videos and the odd international friendly thrown in, the tournament might still be 26 days away, but I can hardly wait.

Well that excitement factor just got kicked up a notch today with the arrival of the World Cup Blog Team’s tickets for two matches.

We applied through the US Soccer Federation and were lucky enough to get through the mismanagement that seems to haunt World Cup ticket allocations everywhere. We’ll be among the rowdy fans in the stadium at:

USA v. Czech Republic in Gelsenkirchen on June 12th
USA v. Ghana in Nurnberg on June 22nd

And despite the widely held belief that the USA will not make it out of this tough group, we’ll be hoping they do so we can validate our tickets to their second round match, potentially against Brazil. How sweet would that be!

If anyone is going to be in these cities on match day, let us know and we can meet up for a stein or two. Because we’re culturally sensitive Americans, we’ll be easy to spot.

And by the way, if you’re one of those lucky few who have tickets they no longer want, or have extras you’re looking to get rid of in order to see more games, you can now swap World Cup tickets.

So you won’t be tempted to sell those tickets for ten times what you paid for them.

The reason they took so long was that we didn’t get them from the German OC, we got them thru the US Soccer Federation. I’m just glad we got ‘em and there’s less time for me to lose them.

I’m still trying to get tickets for Argentina v Ivory Coast for myself and my two teenage lads. We’re in Hamburg for the first weekend only and are desparate to see the game. So far no luck. Any ideas?

Hey Pete,
if you have tickets for another game, you should try the ticket swap.

If not, I’m sure there will be scalpers at the game or you can try ebay or a ticket broker.

The problems are,
you’ll probably have to spend a lot of $$,
and you may be checked at the gate to see if your name matches those on the tickets…

Good luck!

Hey Chris,

Do you know any examples of reasons the FIFA allowes when you swap tickets? I know the 7 reasons (hardship etc) but do you know any examples?

If not, do you know anyone who successfully swaped tickets?

Thanks and have a great WC!
