Think you had a tough day?
Below is the video of Colombia keeper Luis Martinez scoring against Poland in Tuesday’s friendly. Check out the reaction of Poland keeper Tomasz Kuszczak. At first he seems too stunned to even be upset. Also make sure you play the video through until the end so you can see Martinez’s celebration. He’s been waiting a lifetime to do that. Do you suppose keepers secretly practice goal celebrations just in case?

I’m surprised no one is discussing the new ball in more detail, it looked like it gained speed after it bounced once, Goalkeepers you have been WARNED!! hehe

Sam, are you saying you wouldn’t have celebrated if you had scored that goal? Right…
Hats up to the guy.

Oh dear. Hee hee. (Sorry to our Polish friends). The odds of a keeper winning the golden boot have just narrowed considerably.

Yet no keeper has ever scored in the world cup, though Schmeichel came close with some free kicks he took for Denmark in the 1998 World Cup.

As A Polish Fan…..3 Thoughts:
1) It was an indeed dumb goal to let in, If anything I would’ve punched it out regardless where it went. Anyways, In front of the Polish fans our starting goalie began to cry, I feel sorry for the guy. But, it is my strongest belief however, that it has made him a stronger individual…trust me, these next couple of nights he won’t be able to sleep well
…he’ll be focused for the next game.
2) It was a great kick by the Goaltender and I agree with the previous post that the bounce of the ball was a bit awkward(maybe from the new adidas ball(….then again this is coming from a polish Fan
3) If Coach Janas Is Smart he won’t bench Him after the misplay…The Croatian game will be a good match to guage where his talents stand…Croatians will come out gunning, guarenteed.
In All honestly, the game looked like one of chance, all 3 goals were sketchy -> http://tinyurl.com/r84a5

More evidence that Group A is the softest group… Poland is supposed to come in 2nd and advance to the next round? More incentive for England to try to win their group. What was the goalie doing????

This is all a dream, a horrible horrible dream. I’m going to bed now, and when i awaken i expect to read that Team Polska won 2-0 and Ebi didn’t play with his head up his ass the whole game.
O, and i expect to see Bobby Ewing in the shower, too.

The ball was probably just rotating, that’s why it got a bit odd after bouncing once (going forward at a higher speed).
The new ball doesn’t change much, that’s a myth. Remember this, there are FIFA regulations on the size, speed, weight etc of balls used for Football, so they’re never trying to deviate from that but rather make sure they stick to the guidelines more tighly. The biggest “improvement” on the new ball is that it doesn’t absorb water (previous balls could absorb something like 8% of its weight in water) and they don’t lose their original format during the match as much as the old balls used to. You will only see big differences with this ball during matches with rain.. strange rebounds like these are commonplace with all kinds of balls depending on the effect put to it.

woooow…it’s a pretty good goal and lucky…finally goalkeepers get what they deserve..of course he should celebrate what kind of nonsense is that??Goalkeepers very rarely get the glory.. and sometimes goalkeepers like him get it..and they sometimes deserve it more than others!!even if he didn’t mean to score he should still be celebrating!!!When attackers score without meaning to, they celebrate so why not him!!!Well done Luis Martinez!!!I hope to see more of those…;-)

As a golie I am more amazed by the powerful kick than the goal itself. It happened to me to be able to score from my goal but I was playing indoor therefore my effort is not even comparable.
Anyhow it would be nice if Tomasz practiced everyday to try to score to other goalies!
Good Luck!

[...] Okay, no trash talking, no predictions, no whinging…just a little straight blogging reportage on the day of the Croatia friendly. After all, this isn’t mighty Lithuania or that Colombia squad with that goal-scoring machine known as Luis Martinez. This is Croatia, an honest-to-Puskas Cup contender which isn’t about to let up on lackluster uninspired play. Hell, they won’t need to, as evidenced by the Colombia “match.” Plus, i’ve got a bet on this one with “Kaiser” Soze. I’ve got a sick feeling he’s about to earn a nice bottle of that uniquely Hungarian herb liqueur, Unicum. I’m not generally superstitious, but i am starting to belief in the jinx. [...]

[...] Talking about Flash, YouTube is literally exploding with pre-World Cup goodness and goofyness. See The Peter Crouch Story for some robot dance, a World Cup 2002 compilation, a World Cup 2006 preview, Alan Partridge’s World Cup 1994 countdown showing how a goal should not be narrated, how football players can rap (answer: depends on what continent you’re from), the biggest “WTF?” moment from the recent friendlies (a goalkeeper scoring a goal from across the field), and some other funny moments in the history of football. How some people don’t like football I’ll never understand. [...]

[...] One of the more interesting non-football related elements from this World Cup is the proliferation of video and online streaming of matches and highlights. From watching a keeper score a goal to seeing Peter Crouch robot dance to the friendlies beamed onto your computers by Chinese pirates via Israel, you have no shortage of opportunities to watch football on the Internet. For a lucky few, this will include the opportunity to watch entire World Cup matches on your computer. [...]
