The World Cup Blame Game
It is always fun to see how countries respond to poor perfomancees in the World Cup. Some take it with a stiff upper lip, some end up with fights in the locker room and some blame it on the frogs. Loud frogs chirping outside the team hotel keeping the players awake all night before the match is one possible reason why Ukraine looked asleep against Spain if you are to believe defender Vladislav Vashchuk.
Some Ukraine players were so upset they threatened to chase down the nuisances with their bare hands, the Ukrainian daily Donbas reported Thursday.
Given the speed at which Ukraine played against Spain you have to think those frogs would never have been caught.
Sweden’s players also are a little droopy eyed because those noisy German fans celebrating their team’s victory over Poland kept them up late at night before yesterday’s match against Paraguay. Earplugs, gentlemen. They are dangerous but they work wonders.
Finally, there are no shortage of teams that are blaming their poor play on the pitch. France and Holland have been particularly vocal about the dryness and the heat of the grass.
But even this sniveling doesn’t compare to Switzerland’s Ludovic Magnin who blamed the setting sun that ’shone smack in our faces’ for his team’s lackluster draw against France.
That pesky German sun is ruining everything.
