The Sounds of Soccer

By: WC Bob | February 2nd, 2006 | 1 Comment »

One of the more interesting cultural phenomenons of the World Cup is the need for the various participating countries to have a theme song for their teams. There is also official theme music of the tournament which in the past has brought the world closer together through the lyrics of Ricky Martin and Anastacia.

More times than not these songs end up being featured so often on the telly and on the radio that about midway through the World Cup you are ready to go all Vincent Van Gogh on yourself. Fortunately, for every ten bad songs - like Daryl Hall’s Gloryland for USA ‘94 (sorry to bring that misery out of extinction) - there is one of quality.

Here is one music critic’s list of the best footie songs.

Which ones would you add to the list?

My pick’s would include Bayern by the Toten Hosen (an anti-Bayern Munich song) and Trainerbank by Neue Heimat.
