Jonathan,

The conversation that I remember was that in Ireland a tip is not generally expected or included and that the seven of you were split about even as to whether you include a tip if service is normal or average.

Looking back over it, I should have been more specific about that part.

Enjoy the rest of your trip.

Hi Peter

Quick one for you. I was one of the lads that you were talking to the other night at the irish bar. Just to clarify I dont think any of us said to you at any point that the irish dont tip. If my memory serves me well we were discussing the tipping situation and the direct quote and argument was in Ireland it is customary to tip only if we receive a good service. The staff in Germany and Ireland all receive a liveable wage so tipping should only be done depending on the service. Anyhow you'll be glad to know that zora the bulgarian waitress went home with a tip benefitting her service to us that night. Anyhow apart from the inaccuracies it was a well written article.

Thanks

Famous german saying "Es gibt kein Bier im Himmel, darum trinken wir es hier". Translated that means "There is no beer in heaven so we have to drink it here". Sounds like you guys are doing a good job at drinking it here. Time for you guys to leave the Prussian capital and head to the Bavarian capital for some Hofbrauhaus or do you prefer Weizenbier? You got to go to the Munich Beergardens (especially the Hofbrauhaus one) and check out the waitresses carrying over a dozen Steins at once. Prost!!!
