That Robben Island handshake isn’t going to happen quite yet

By: WC Bob | October 25th, 2006 | 17 Comments »

It is now international law that we must hear from either Marco Materazzi or Zinedine Zidane at least once every week. In this week’s installment of the Headbutt that just Keeps Giving, Materazzi informs us that he is waiting for Zizou to apologize:

“It could happen one day but all the conditions will have to be met,” Materazzi told French radio station RTL. “At the end of the day, it was me who received the headbutt, not him. I have apologised. Now I am waiting…”

Perhaps Zidane is too busy laughing at the newly published joke book or maybe he is just waiting for Sepp Blatter to set up that made-for-tv event at Robben Island, but whatever the case might be you can be assured that this story will never die even if the two loveable lugs come together and sing Kumbaya.

That Materazzi really has no shame and he is milking this for all it’s worth. Not to sound harsh but…if it wasn’t for the ZZ connection, would he be commanding this much attention? he is really gross. i’m really starting to agree with all those other people who say he took a dive on this one. Maybe the Academy will remember him at Oscar time.

arissa d.,

your not very smart so I dont really know how to respond. It is obvious by your comment that you have absolutely no clue what is going on. Materazzi has nothing to do with the Robben Island handshake. This was a Sepp Blatter idea. Not Materazzi.

As for the dive, well, if I ever meet you, I’ll headbutt you with all my might and then we can see how you really feel.

Zidane is a stubborn Arab French bastard with absolutely no shame for waht he did. Afterall, it is HE who headbutted someone, yet, you idiots are downtalking Materazzi.

I’ve used this example many times on this blog and I’ll use it again:

If I tell someone they are stupid (or that I wanted to take the shirt off of their sister’s back) and they shoot me, should I be charged too because I insulted them?

P.S. Materazzi isnt going to the media and providing him with comments, the media is chasing him for comments… (that is how media usually works)

I HAVE BECOME TIRED OF THE ANTI MATERRAZZI TIRADES MADE BY THE FRENCH AND ENGLISH FANS.WHY? BECAUSE THEY SMACK OF RACISM AGAINST THE ITALIANS.THE ENTIRE WORLD IS PISSED AT ITALY FOR WINNING THE CUP.IF ANY OTHER TEAM HAD WON , EVERYTHING WOULD BE HONKEY DOREY . HOW COME NO ONE IS OUTRAGED AT ROONEY FOR STOMPING ON SOMEONE’S GENITALIA?

u r right michael rooney is notvery clever. I did not talk abt materazzi, but other like canavaro 1st minute on henry, zambrotta on vieira right after, cannavaro on zidane later. italy won fair enough, but zizou went mad and even as french can hardly forgive him. however he remains one of the greatest, an artist. ciao bello!

I think the world is upset that the the world cup of the beautiful game was won by Italy playing such ugly football. For all the talk of the skill of the Serie A why does Italy play so defensive and predictable. They also foul as a defensive tactic since they can’t keep up with skillfull defenders and they cheated to beat Australia. Those are some of the reasons that fans can’t give Italy credit. Materrazzi also was a bit player who was only getting significant time due to an injury. Another case of Europeans thinking that racial slurs are a-ok to use.

Lesm you better get your facts striaght. You obviously dont know what was going on.

1. Italy did not cheat against Australia. Do some research, watch the play again. Dont take one opinion and stick to it.
2. MAterazzi’s comment was not racist. He was RESPONDING to Zidane. This was ADMITTED BY ZIDANE in a FORMAL STATEMENT with FIFA.

Better get your facts straight.

What bothers me the most? I’ll tell you:

I think that anyone who makes up their mind about something because assessing OBJECTIVELY BOTH SIDES OF THE ISSUE is a damn FOOL!

pfilou,

are you referring to when henry RAN INTO Cannavaro?

He should look where he is going and stop taking dives (against Spain, Switzerland… Korea…. and so on… That is what I think of your hero.

My dear, Henry should look where he is going…. I’ve seen the play over and over – Cannavaro is LOOKING AT THE BALL!!! NOT AT HENRY!!!

Just leave me alone and get a life! I dont have time for idiots like you anymore! Obviously you are too narrowminded and blind to learn anything…. you only see what you WANT to see, not reality, but your own reality…

Henry is a great diver – ASK SPAIN!!!

pfilou,

I’m not confusing Henry with anyone – guess you are incapable of following a match… I’ve posted videos of his diving before on this blog… I’m not wasting my time doing it again.

This is what your ’saint’ is like. You can go trash who you want, but you should look at both sides of the coin before making a statement.
